I think we could all use a bit of ‘90s nostalgia right about now. The music, movies, and fashion of the 1990’s will forever hold a special place in my heart. Though if I can let you in on my dirty little secret, I’m actually an early 2000’s kid by birth. Regardless, ‘90s pop culture made such an impact on my life growing up and I’m just really missing it at this point. So I put together a short list of ways you can bring the ‘90s vibes into your life in 2020.
1. Butterfly Clips
Not only are butterfly clips the cutest things on Earth, they’re also super handy! I remember my hairdresser would hand me a few of these bad boys every month to style my oh-so-chic bangs. Butterfly clips will forever remain the ultimate accessory, so maybe it’s time to pick up these sparkly beauties in our adult lives.
2. Crimped Hair
Can we please bring back the crimped hair? While this look got its start in the ‘80s, it remained popular in the ‘90s and early 2000’s. It may be a controversial take, but I’m dying to whip out my crimper again. And I think self-isolation is the perfect time to enjoy this style, away from judgmental eyes in the privacy of your home.
3. Easy-Bake Oven
Just hear me out, okay? I miss my Easy-Bake Oven desperately. With its gorgeous pink and white exterior and powdery cupcake and pretzel mixes, there’s nothing else that compares. I know quarantine baking has become a thing over these past few weeks, so let’s kick it up a notch and make insanely adorable, inedible treats that bring us back to our childhood.
4. Tiger Beat
Tiger Beat was my pride and joy as a pre-teen. My happiness will truly never be the same without the front page collage of Disney’s hottest celebs and hidden posters in my hand. I love an online blog as much as the next girl, but no computer screen gossip column will ever compare to the waxy pages of paparazzi shots, the Who Wore It Better? section, and effortless beauty tips. Not to mention the screensaver and ringtone advertisements on the last page.
5. Dear Diary and My Password Journal
These toys were password protected and filled with all of our juicy secrets - basically the original iPhone! If you’re really looking to write down some confidential drama, maybe you should dig around and find this heavy duty gem. I can promise that no one will expect it.
What else do you miss from the ‘90s? Should we leave stick-on earrings, Kid Cuisine, and Space Jam in the past, or is it time for a revival?
